And after receiving a £400 grant from the Rowan Boland Memorial Trust, he is aiming high for this year.

Jack said: "This grant will enable me to continue to attend coaching sessions with Scottish Golf and my personal coach and also attend various Scottish Golf event this season.

"My goal for the coming season will be to reduce my handicap by one to allow me to a better chance to qualify to play in British boys competitions."

Stow's Evan Holloway is among Scotland's best young talent – and now has the support of the Rowan Boland Memorial Trust.

The 12-year-old is part of the Scottish Football Association's Performance School programme, attending Broughton High School in Edinburgh alongside other talented footballers.

The Performance Schools aim to give the selected children the best chance to fulfil their potential.

Evan is also a Hibs player and will use his £200 grant to help purchase football boots and warm clothing for training at the Premiership club's East Lothian base.

Archer Eleanor Macdonald hit the target in 2018, and is aiming to continue her progress this year.

Eleanor has already represented Scotland and won a series of titles last year despite being only 11 years old.

The Melrose resident has now picked up £150 from the Rowan Boland Memorial Trust to help purchase new equipment to assist their development in the sport.

Duns cross country runner Lewis Tharme is looking east in 2019.

Lewis, who finished second in last year's Borders Cross Country Series, has received a cheque for £250 from the Rowan Boland Memorial Trust as he aims to take on the best of the East of Scotland.

The 16-year-old Gala Harrier said: "I would like to compete in the East District Cross Country League and East District Championships this year which will incur extra travel and accommodation costs.

"These events will hopefully give me a chance to represent the East of Scotland at the Inter District Championships."

Gala Wanderers will be kept warm by the Rowan Boland Memorial Trust this winter.

The Under 18 rugby side, their coaches and first aiders have been provided with wet weather jackets by the charity to protect them from adverse weather during the season.
