Former Scotland player Mike Dods has expressed his delight that at being named the Rowan Boland Memorial Trust's latest honorary patron

Former Scotland player Mike Dods has expressed his delight that at being named the Rowan Boland Memorial Trust's latest honorary patron. The ex-Gala and Northampton back, who now works with sports brand Under Armour, joins the likes of Chris Paterson, Ryan Mania and Greig Laidlaw as an honorary patron due to his extensive support for the Trust's fundraising efforts. Dods said: "It is great to support such a fantastic cause. "It is good for the Borders that youngsters can now be supported and given an opportunity to reach the top level in their sports. "When I was young, there was no support such as this available. There was no grants, scholarships and sportscotland didn't exist, you had to rely on your parents. "I am very humbled when the Trust's chairman Davie Boland asked me to be an honorary patron and I had no hestiation in accepting. "It is just great to be able to help." Despite now being based in Gloucester, Dods keeps a close eye on the progress of Gala and Scotland and is optimistic for the future of both sides. Dods added: "I always check Gala's results on social media. Last year was tough to see them get so close to winning the league, but the main thing is Gala is back in the top division and challenging for trophies. "Scotland have a young squad and an exciting backline, they just need to get their first win to start a run of of good results."
